DIRECTOR OF HEALTH SERVICES |
The primary responsibility of this position is to ensure the health and safe medical care of individuals served by TILL programs. The Director of Health Services is accountable for the medical supervision of the individuals and coordinating with staff in their handling of the individuals' health care needs. The Director of Health Services reports to the Vice President of Program Services.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Supervise RN’s, employee health care staff, and employed PT, OT, SLP.
2. Approve clinicians’ time sheets and appropriate allegation of time.
3. Provide nursing vacation/sick coverage for day habs and residences after all coverage possibilities have been covered.
4. Serve as a liaison for clinical contractors and temp agencies.
5. Interview and hire new clinicians ( RN, LPN, OT, PT, SLP, PTA, COTA)
6. Orient new clinicians.
7. Schedule and conduct nursing meetings every 3 months.
8. Develop and review health care policies.
9. Review monthly residential nursing summaries at the beginning of every month.
10. Ensure compliance of regulations and evaluations etc.
11. Oversee MAP training and Recertification training.
12. Participate in all external and internal evaluations and certification reviews.
13. Ensure provision and appropriate maintenance of supportive and protective devices.
14. Obtain prior approval processes for medication and equipment via assigned program nurses.
15. Oversee pre-medication and behavior modifying medications.
16. Comply with New Hampshire med regulations.
17. Review referrals, day and residential, assessment of medical needs.
18. Ongoing monitoring and assessment of client health through program visits, staff meetings and telephone contact.
19. Oversee HCSIS/MOR reporting.
20. Liaison with health care providers, hospitals, pharmacies, Hospice and VNA.
21. Telephone on-site evaluation and triage of episodic medical issues.
22. On-call back up.
23. Identify and refer to new medical providers.
24. Monitor scheduling of medical appointments.
25. Liaison with non-TILL day program nurses.
26. Review pre-tests for those who failed initial MAP test.
27. Print out medication information sheets.
28. Provide trainings on health related topics as needed.
29. Prepare and post nursing news.
30. Ensure proper operation of larger equipment: shower chairs, mechanical lifts, bathtub lifts, etc.
31. Responsible medically for a few TILL programs as needed.
32. Provide consultation to staff and families on as-needed basis for all individuals.
33. Provide RN coverage for temporary periods during vacancies after all other coverage possibilities have been exhausted.
34. Develop research projects related to community-based health care.
QUALIFICATIONS:
RN with a minimum of BA in Nursing and current Massachusetts license. Minimum of five years' experience with progressive responsibilities in supervision, training, clinical assessment and management skills in increasingly independent environments. Current driver's license and car are required. Must possess good writing and oral skills to effectively communicate individual needs and objectives, as well as for providing effective training and consultation. Strength and dexterity needed to lift, transfer and maneuver individuals.
