Description:

Axsys Technologies, a $245M public company, with multiple operating divisions located throughout the US, manufactures and sells a broad range of high performance electro-mechanical and electro-optical components and sub-assemblies to the aerospace, defense, electronics capital equipment, graphic arts and medical imaging markets.  Our Surveillance Systems Group - IR Cameras and Systems in Nashua, NH produces sophisticated infrared and visible cameras and systems for use in high-end military and commercial applications. 

Basic Function:

Mechanical Engineer V designs, develops, and tests state of the art solutions for advanced imaging, turret, gimbal, laser and other electro-optics systems.  Applies knowledge of engineering principles to design components and mechanisms.  Maybe involved in fabrication, operation, application, installation, and/or repair of mechanical products.  Relies on past experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals and performs a variety of complicated tasks.  A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.  Experience in all aspects of mechanical components, equipment, and machinery design is required.  Must be familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures.    

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

·         Development of high-end opto-mechanical designs for IR and EO sensor systems for integration into stabilized gimbal platforms

·         Analyze performance specifications

·         Optimize the payload designs for maximum performance, reliability and cost in conjunction with the gimbal engineers

·         Develop mechanisms to support camera functions; zoom mechanisms, focus mechanism, change field of view mechanisms, shutters etc

·         Oversee the design, detail and analysis of diverse opto-mechanical components and systems

·         Perform engineering calculations for electro-optics applications

·         Assembly and alignment planning and fixturing.

·         Integration of DFM, DFS and cost control strategies.

·         Appropriate documentation (CAD models & dwgs, Engineering Changes, etc.) of all designs

·         Project milestone scheduling and accurate time estimating of assigned projects

·         Prototype development, including conceptual design, material selection and prototype fabrication

·         Stress, thermal modeling and process qualification

·         Infra-Red (IR) and Electro-Otpics (EO) Systems is required

Education, Training:

This role requires at least 10+ years of experience and applicants must hold at least a bachelors degree.
