SUMMARY OF POSITION: Supporting the Operational Excellence (OpEx) Corporate strategy, this position will focus on creating new and improved processes to predictably meet and exceed customer expectations, achieve market leadership, and meet internal goals of the Operational Excellence function. This person will work closely with Corporate, GBU, and Divisional Leadership to ensure that best practices and continuous improvement are part of our culture, and will concentrate on accelerating Covidien’s Lean transformation. This person will join others on the Corporate Operational Excellence Team in serving as a Lean sensei; therefore, substantial experience in teaching and driving Lean thinking in operations is required. This person will design and deliver Lean-related training, mentor operational leadership and line Operational Excellence personnel as they increase their mastery of Lean principles, and run large-scale process improvement projects throughout Covidien specifically as they pertain to the Lean transformation.
LEAN KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERTISE REQUIRED: - Strategy Deployment and Hoshin Kanri - World Class manufacturing principles - Continuous flow and pull systems - Value stream analysis - Extensive experience leading Kaizen events that achieved value-stream level improvements - Has managed the transformation of multiple value streams, by organizing Kaizen events, projects, and organizational changes necessary to achieve a sustained transformation - KPI performance management systems experience - Must be a strong coach/teacher and have a strong track record of developing organizational and individual capabilities - Ability to influence up, down and peers
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: - Drive the development and deployment of Lean - Mentor and develop the skills of GBU OpEx Managers / Directors, OpEx Leaders, Black Belts, and Lean Leaders as required - Design and deliver Lean - related training - Create mechanisms for knowledge sharing and best-practice knowledge transfer between Covidien organizations and among Covidien Operational Excellence practitioners - Lead cross-functional / cross-business teams to objectively and continually assess and improve process performance - Facilitate productive use of KPI performance metrics - Coordinate with GBU OpEx Managers / Directors, and other functional leadership - Prioritize and oversee the implementation of continuous improvement projects focused at improving the effectiveness of Operational Excellence - Support Operational Excellence teams in the areas of continuous improvement, teaching, and project consulting/implementation
Requirements:
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education: BS degree or equivalent degree in Business Management, Engineering, or other related field of study. MBA, MS or other technical graduate degree preferred
Experience: 7+ years of demonstrated history of Operational Excellence and process improvement implementation using Lean methods Solid operations experience, particularly in applying lean thinking and Six Sigma tools and methodologies within a manufacturing environment to yield improvements in cost, quality, and delivery
Skills/Competencies: - Extensive Lean implementation experience at plant and business levels - Certified as an Operational Excellence Black Belt - Certified as a Lean Master - Experienced in deploying Lean and Six Sigma methods - Strong training, coaching, and facilitation skills - Solid past performance as a Project Manager and Kaizen Leader - Strong analytical/statistical problem solving tools - Ability to manage multiple priorities - Must be able to function effectively in a team environment - Excellent oral / written communication skills and platform skills - Demonstrated change leadership - Advanced skills in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Minitab
