The Java Architect will lead a team of developers to design, implement and maintain applications for the Editorial Systems group. This individual will be responsible for planning, development and implementation of the software systems used by the Editorial department and will act as the technical lead. This individual will analyze requirements specified by the user community and business partners and translate them into high level designs and project plans. The Java Architect will be deeply immersed in a number of projects from concept to implementation.
This role requires exceptional versatility including: project leadership; technology planning; formal and informal communication; requirements analysis, software design and analysis; and software development. This senior level role is an individual contributor position and will have a significant influence on the way systems are designed. This role requires the ability to master a variety of competing factors to form correct judgments and recommendations that balance current and anticipated business and technology needs.
Qualifications include a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field of study. Master’s degree preferred. Eight (8) or more years development experience in full life-cycle development is required. 5+ years experience with server-side Java is required as is 5+ years experience with RDBMS, preferably Oracle. Must have demonstrated experience with Enterprise Java components including JSP, Servlets, JDBC, XML, Struts/Webwork, Spring and Hibernate. Must have a deep technical understanding of systems, databases, networking, and computing environments. Excellent communication, team-working, and technical writing skills are all necessary.
