SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY:

 

The Special Education Teacher is responsible for the coordination and the supervision of the daily operations of their assigned program site(s).They are responsible for the design and implementation of all educational and clinical programs of assigned client with direct support and supervision from the Director of Special Education. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the program design, implementation and training of educational and clinical programs; ISP/IEP development and monitoring; supervision of the staff; evaluation of staff; and oversight of all operational systems within the site(s).

 

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:

 

The Special Education teacher reports to a Director of Special Education. He/she works in conjunction with their assigned teaching staff to insure that there is consistent implementation of educational and clinical programs for their assigned clients. He/she receives additional supervision and clinical support and direction from the Executive Director. They assure the quality of services while maintaining positive and consistent working relationships with all staff and works as a constructive and active team member in all duties.

 

A. SUPERVISORY AND TEAM RELATIONSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

1.         Assures that adequate staffing is provided at all times.

 

2.         Routinely meets with all staff, on an individual basis. During these supervision meetings, offers staff constructive feedback on their performance and encourages input into program plans and revisions.

 

3.         Regularly meets with the team of staff. Reviews progress, problems, methods, techniques, schedules, etc. and to facilitate the free exchange of ideas. Chairs the meeting.

 

4.         Acts as a role model for staff in communication, interaction with the clients and S.O.L.V.E. techniques. Sets a positive tone and encourages positive attitudes in all team members.

 

5.         Delegates authority appropriately.

 

6.         Trains personnel on procedural and programmatic matters.

 

7.         Works cooperatively with the Director of Staff Development in training new staff in assigned areas.

 

8.         Monitors staff development and performance. Provides additional training. Documents same in accordance with Amego guidelines and policies established by the Human Resource Department.

 

9.         Attends and participates in required administrative planning meetings, and client specific program planning meetings.

 

10.       Acts as a liaison between program staff and administration, assuring that staff needs are addressed.

 

12.       Reports on a regular basis to the Program Director regarding responsibilities described herein.

 

13.       Maintains a positive working relationship with all Amego personnel.

 

B. CLIENT SERVICES RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

1.         Assures that clients health needs are addressed as needed and as scheduled. Works in conjunction with the Coordinator of Health Services to insure that quality services are provided.

 

2.         Reviews and follows up on all incident reports and Accident/Injury Reports from staff.

 

3.         Participates in licensing or certification of the program site(s).

 

4.         Assesses clients' strengths and needs and develops IEP/ISP, based upon them. Modifies plans and objectives when data reflect that progress is not being made.

 

6.         Develops methodolgy for teaching specific objectives and long term goals of clients.

 

7.         Prepares reports in a timely and professional manner including but not limited to : Implementation Strategies, Need Area Worksheets, Quarterly Reports, ELN's, Program and Client  schedules.

 

8.         Assures the accuracy of the data collection system.

 

C. ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

1.         Provides an organized, clutter free environments to assure a safe and harmonious living and working environment. Oversees that cleaning schedules are followed.

 

2.         Provides for consistent location of materials to enable all clients and staff are readily able to locate supplies. Replaces or assures the replacement of the same as needed. Stays within budget in order to provide adequate programming opportunities.

 

3.         Assures that staffing schedules are readily available.

 

4.         Assures that all financial records and/or funds are maintained as required by Amego and it's licensers. (Personal Needs accounts, Purchase Orders, Staff reimbursements, Check Requests, etc.)

 

5.         Assures the maintenance of all required team records (i.e. communication logs) and required client file information (i.e. medication log, clinical program book) in program location(s). Provides for easy access to client files for staff review.

 

6.         Develops a data keeping system which provides documentation of progress towards ISP/IEP goals.

 

7.         Assures that an accurate schedule is available in program location(s)which indicates scheduled time to work on objectives as designated in their ISP/IEP.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

1.         BS/BA in a related field is required. Must be enrolled or agree to become enrolled in a Master’s of Special Education program leading to a Masters degree. If not certified by the state must apply or have a waiver toward certification.

 

2.         At least three years of supervisory, managerial experience required.

 

3.         Excellent interpersonal skills. Communication skills must include accuracy, clarity and consistency.

 

4.         Maturity, good judgment and ability to handle confidential information. Proven ability to manage multiple priorities.

 

5.         Must be proficient or become proficient in First Aid and CPR.

 

6.         Must be able to meet all of the Essential Functions of the position. Initial and continued employment is contingent upon:

a. A successful completion of a drug screen and pre-employment physical (for all hires after 1/92).

b. Employees are required to enroll in, pass and maintain certification after hire in a S.O.L.V.E. (Strategies of Limiting Violent Episodes) Course. It's physical requirements are as follows:

 

7.      Must have a valid driver’s license.
