Responsibilities

  • Support/help organize daily activities of the EMD Serono Inc. Intellectual Property (IP) Department;
  • Locate and complete IP form documents - assignments, powers of attorney, declarations, information disclosure statements (IDS) etc., for filing with U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and WIPO;
  • Support in-house patent attorneys and agents in application filings, patent prosecution, litigation, due diligence, opinion work, presentations, etc.;
  • Input, maintain and retrieve IP patent family records and invoices in MIS IP-docketing system;
  • Create and maintain IP file folders and document scanning; bring and keep filing up-to-date;
  • Handle miscellaneous office duties as needed, including mail collection and distribution, supply orders, etc.

Qualifications

  • B.A./B.S. degree from an accredited college;
  • Paralegal certificate from ABA-approved education program or enrollment in such a program;
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in a corporate IP practice, IP law firm, or IP department of a general practice law firm;
  • Excellent PC skills, including expertise with MS Word, Power Point and Excel;
  • Ability to work under pressure, prioritize work load items; coordinate workflow within the department and among other EMD Serono departments as needed;
  • Ability to work in multi-cultural setting;
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Attention to detail.


The successful candidate will be detail-oriented, and exhibit professional, respectful demeanor. He/she must be willing to relocate as this position is scheduled to move to Billerica, MA, in/after 2010. Massachusetts notary preferred.
