Job Title: Molding Manufacturing Engineer Department: Engineering
Reports to: Mgr, Engineering
BASIC FUNCTION
Perform engineering work related to planning, selecting and implementing a variety of injection molding assembly technologies and methods for the most cost effective and efficient manufacturing of disposable medical devices. Provide engineering support in a medical device compliance oriented environment.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Optimizes production by working with others to understand new and existing products and utilize technical knowledge of plastic materials, tooling, molding and extrusion processes and various assembly techniques. This includes providing design for manufacturability (DFM) input, executing first article inspection (FAI), materials selection assistance and tool design.
Develops process improvements; enhances procedures, fixtures, tooling and equipment.
Optimizes processes for improved product quality, yield improvements, and cycle time improvements.
Ensures proper documentation is prepared and completed to meet company Quality System requirements (i.e., work instructions, engineering technical reports, validation protocols and reports, equipment specifications, and product specifications/prints).
Implements Lean manufacturing strategies to streamline processes and eliminate non-value added activities.
Works cooperatively with other departments to ensure the success of manufacturing process improvements
Assists in new product transfer from R&D/Engineering to Manufacturing. Provides training to trainers and setup operators on new and revised procedures.
Works with management to efficiently resolve raw material, process, equipment, and training issues on the production floor. Develops and implements corrective actions as required.
Examines equipment, processes, operations, and assembly to determine time or quality revisions and suggests improvements.
May have responsibility to carry out changes or monitor operations standards.
Contributes to the purchase of new capital equipment by making recommendations to management and evaluating vendor proposals.
Performs all other duties as required or assigned
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent
EXPERIENCE: 3 to 5 years manufacturing engineering in the plastics and/or medical devices industry
SPECIAL SKILLS: Able to read blueprints and schematics; understanding of Quality Control principles; process validation.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Able to lift up to 50 lbs; sit, stand, bend and stoop; good visual acuity and capable of fine motor skills
