General Statement of Duties: To create and maintain a cultural, social and academic environment to facilitate the growth and development of the individual student through the coordination and implementation of the All College Student Conduct System and the college wide Commuter student experience.
Supervision Received: Reports to the Dean of Student and Academic Life with additional duties and supervision within the Student Development office.
Supervision Exercised: Supervise student staff assigned to the area.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Serves as primary hearing officer for the All College Judicial System.
2. Responsible for the oversight, organization and direction of all student conduct aspects, including academic issues, for the campus. This includes:
a. Counsel and make referrals for students with grievances and mediate campus disputes.
b. Coordinate discipline cases with faculty and staff.
c. Conduct and facilitate discipline meetings/hearings with students.
d. Coordinate discipline cases with staff in campus Housing and Residential Services.
e. Coordinate the staffing and training for the members of the student conduct board.
f. Maintain official college discipline records and provide summary reports as needed.
g. Assist in required federal, state and local reporting as related to judicial matters.
3. Collaborate with key stakeholders on campus, including: Campus Police, Counseling Services, and Student Development, Housing and Residential Services and the Dean’s office.
4. Implement, manage and coordinate the duties, schedule and Conduct training of Housing and Residential Services staff and student conduct board members.
5. Review and draft recommendations for policies and procedures regarding student conduct matters, the Code of Conduct handbook and the student handbook.
6. Provide leadership in the development and implementation of the college wide commuter student experience program; including but not limited to, correspondence/communications; preparation and distribution of print/electronic publications to new and current commuter students ; maintain the Commuter Student web site; logistics associated with the program, including room reservations, IT services, student mentor assignments, facilities, vendors, etc., and working with various college departments.
7. Advise the Commuter Board and implement a series of programs in conjunction with the Commuter Board; assist commuter students with day-time programming; co-curricular programming with the faculty and staff, planning commuter appreciation weeks, discussion forums, etc.
8. Support campus wide events that are offered by the Student Development Office which may include evening and/or weekend duties as assigned.
9. Propose and manage budgets and monitor program expenses.
10. Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications & Requirements:
1. Bachelor’s Degree required; Masters Degree in student personnel or related area preferred and recent professional judicial affairs/student conduct experience necessary.
2. Knowledge of due process requirements in student discipline matters and dispute resolution alternatives, including mediation.
3. Demonstrated recent experience administering student conduct matters and implementing judicial processes and ability to counsel students individually to resolve college related concerns.
4. Knowledge of higher education and student development principles, practices and procedures required.
5. Familiarity with FERPA and HIPPA regulations and matters of confidentiality.
6. Must be able to satisfactorily pass a CORI check.
7. Demonstrated ability to write and present analytical reports related to student conduct.
8. Ability to interact effectively with students, faculty, staff and parents and community members regarding college policy and procedures.
9. Ability to maintain a sense of fairness, sensitivity and good judgment in emotionally charged situations.
10. Working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, database and email applications.
11. Ability to perform the above duties with or without reasonable accommodations.
