Description: To assist with growing needs of the company in machine assembly, implementation of enhancements, debugging and maintenance.
Equipment
· Assembles new job setups based on the part size/fixture on a variety of different types of equipment involving accurate alignment in order to maintain specified tolerances.
· May be responsible to operate multiple machines simultaneously by first setting up equipment using appropriate tooling components. Activates machine start-up using conversational applications, manual data inputs, or a direct numerical control (DNC) system.
· Calculates dimensions and tolerances using many types of precision instruments and equipment, (i.e., vernier, calipers, height gauges, protractors, micrometers, comparators, probes, and plug gauges) to attain accurate dimensions and maintain tight tolerances.
· Run manually operated machines and equipment.
Procedures
· Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
· Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or work piece as guides for subsequent machining.
· Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders, and shapers.
· Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.
· Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.
· Verifies conformance of finished work piece to specifications.
· Set up and operate machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.
· Verifies dimensions and alignment of parts produced.
· Confers with engineers, production personnel or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.
· Must be able to program/operate direct digital controls diagnostic equipment.
Experience in automated equipment and manufacturing processes. Degree or course certification. Must have machinist skills with a minimum of 5 years experience to work in a prototype job shop environment. Experience with milling machines, set-up in lathe or mill. Eexperience in blueprint reading, sketches and verbal instructions.
Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hand and fingers to handle or feel. Must be able to speak and hear. Must be able to stand or sit for extensive periods of time. The employee is required to walk, reach with hands and arms and occasionally sits, stoop and crouch. Requires frequent mental and visual attention to detail as well as hand coordination. Must be able to periodically lift from 10 – 40 lbs.
