Process/Tooling Engineer

(LSR Injection Molding)

 

The Process/Tooling Engineer reports directly to the Senior Project Engineer.  This position is responsible for development, validation, and launch of new tools and processes, and the flawless launch of new products to production.  The Process Engineer also provides troubleshooting skills and other continuous improvement activities to production. This position coordinates with: Operations, Quality, Sales, other engineering personnel and technicians, division and corporate support personnel, customers and suppliers.

 

 

Required Qualifications

 

·        Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, preferably plastics or mechanical engineering.

·        Minimum 3 years experience working as a process or tooling engineer.

·        Previous experience or training with project management techniques.

·        Technical experience in injection molding of liquid silicone rubber (LSR) and related mold design.

·        Experience with automation and assembly machinery.

·        Experience with Scientific Injection Molding principles

·        Previous experience working in a related manufacturing environment.

·        Demonstrated oral and written communication skills, and presentation skills.

·        Familiarity with statistical problem solving techniques.

 

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

·        Master of Science degree in Engineering.

·        Business degree or progress toward a business degree.

·        Previous experience with APQP project Management.

·        Previous experience in a manufacturing environment of medical or healthcare products and familiarity with ISO-13485 and FDA CFR 21 regulations.

·        CAD experience in 2D dimensioning and tolerancing and 3D solid modeling.

·        Experience using SolidWorks is a plus.  

·        Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.

 

Job Responsibilities

 

·        The Process Engineer maintains complete and accurate records of assigned project activities per the established Quality System.

·        Participates as a team member on assigned projects using established APQP Project Management tools.  Advises management of any cost related issues for assigned projects.
Generates and maintains documentation for all internal processes, inspection criteria, Bill of Materials and other manufacturing and quality records.

·        Conceptualizes and develops lean manufacturing processes for new and existing business opportunities, which may include new and/or modified plant, equipment and process needs.

·        Supports production on injection molding of LSR materials, tooling and processes, assembly and packaging processes, as well as troubleshooting production issues.

·        Interfaces with customers and suppliers on project matters, mold and fixture design, process capability studies, product quality issues, and executes on automation related projects. 

·        Aids with short- and long-term planning for capital expenditures relating to future production requirements; leads projects involving new capital.

·        Maintain a vigilance to identify new potential technologies for the company.

·        Identifies and initiates projects to improve productivity and reduce scrap/reject rates through automation, effective training of production personnel and process enhancements.

·        Conduct internal audits and assists with maintaining the Quality System to ISO-13485 standards.

·        Starts Machines and sets tools as required 

·        Maintains adherence to company policies, safety/ergonomic standards, and good housekeeping practices.
