DBA/Database Architect
Job Description:
The DBA is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of all development, test and production database systems, and must be the technical point person on all architectural database issues. This position spans all of the functional areas in IT and reports to the Manager of Database Architecture.
Responsibilities:
· Integrity of Production Databases
o Work with Infrastructure, Architecture, and Engineering to identify and correct performance and scalability problems in the production databases.
o Own the “care & feeding” aspect of the production databases – performance monitoring, re-orgs, efficient backup strategy, updating index statistics, etc.
o Tune the production database, and work with Infrastructure to best utilize available hardware.
· Growth Of Database Architecture
o Design and implement database solutions to architectural goals such as: second site replication, 10x growth in transaction volume, data warehouse / reporting database.
o Work with the Platform Technology Team in prototyping solutions to different architectural problems.
o Work with Linux & Networking teams on hardware purchasing strategies to help them grow the database architecture.
· Development and Logical Design
o Work with the Platform Team and Engineering to oversee the design of critical areas of the data model.
o Provide support and mentorship to engineers in all aspects of logical database design, creating and tuning queries, etc.
o Administer all databases in test and development environments.
Qualifications:
· 4+ years experience with DB2 in a Linux/Unix environment, including design, implementation, and tuning.
· Strong problem solving and analytical skills. Experience with DB2 performance tuning and trouble-shooting tools and techniques.
· Experience building and supporting high uptime RDBMS systems in a production environment.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
· Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks within a dynamic environment.
· Continued awareness of developing and emerging technologies with a willingness and ability to learn new technologies.
· Other desired skills include DB2 LUW V9.5, VLDB for OLTP, data warehousing, shell and perl scripting.
Education:
· BS in IT or Computer Science.
· IBM DB2 LUW Administrator certification a plus.
