Position Summary:
• The Commodity Product Manager is responsible for managing all product management activities associated with our key foodservice commodity lines of fish fillets and shrimp, such as list pricing and allowance decisions, new product development, product quality/ specification interactions, sales communication and promotions, inventory monitoring with procurement, and related interactions with other departments, to maximize commodity sales opportunities.
Key Responsibilities included but not limited to:
• Manage the weekly price list for commodity products by understanding changes in our inventory costs and incoming P.O.’s to optimize product margins and sales
• Develop the monthly forecast for all commodity items in our portfolio based on sales history, input from the sales force, and knowledge of customer purchasing activity
• Keep track of inventories (current and anticipated) for all commodity items in our portfolio to minimize shorts and inventory exposure
• Work within marketing to develop new commodity products (i.e., understand competitive set, finalize product specs, plan for inventory purchasing and arrival with procurement, develop marketing materials and pricing & promotional strategies
• Develop monthly communication vehicles providing market insights on the commodity portfolio for sales and marketing
• Act as the main contact for our vendor partner on flounder and cold water shrimp to adhere to our supply contract provisions
• Act as liaison on all commodity product issues with other departments such as procurement, quality assurance, sales, etc.
The successful candidate will have a bachelor’s degree or greater, and have 5-7 years experience in product management preferably within the seafood industry and commodity pricing experience. Strong written and verbal communication skills, problem solving, analytical and spreadsheet competency, software applications experience a must.
