The success of EBSCOhost® is due to the company’s commitment to providing superior content with a user-friendly, customizable interface.   EP’s Systems and Networking group is currently seeking a Database Administrator.

The Database Administrator is responsible for all activities required to provide a reliable, robust, and secure production environment. The primary databases are Microsoft SQL Server 2005 along with some Enterprise Edition 2008. This is a hands-on position involved in daily production issues, product upgrades and patches, performance analysis, and disaster recovery implementation.

Essential functions include:

  • Manage, monitor, & maintain the database & Application environments
  • Ensure Backup, Recovery & Business Continuance for database & Applications
  • Active hands-on member of database team
  • Review all migration scripts and performance test results prior to deployment into production, including all applicable applications, operating systems, and hardware
  • Responsible for all database server configurations, capacity, performance planning, and reporting
  • Specify, select and order related hardware and software as required or directed
  • Evaluate and recommend different technologies that will help EBSCO become more competitive and efficient
  • Create and establish security profiles and authentication rights based on application and end user requirements
  • Monitor day to day database activities and reports exceptions to the management team

Qualified applicants must have 5+ years of Microsoft SQL Server 2005 experience. A Bachelor of Science degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or Software Engineering is preferred. Applicants must be proficient with Windows 2005 and have the ability to address performance issues with the operating system. Must have strong SQL Replication skills. Microsoft SQL Server Certifications a plus. Familiarity with SQL Server 2008 Enterprise Edition and Windows 2008 is needed. SSIS and data warehousing experience a plus as is familiarity with NetApp SnapManager for Microsoft SQL Server. Experience with the demands of an Online Service would be very helpful. Candidates must have solid time management skills and the ability to work independently and prioritize work. Must be available 24x7 to assist with any critical problem or outage.
