Job Purpose: 


 


Provides administrative support to Compliance and project teams. Assist team members with projects; cataloguing of state requirements and dissemination of information to all internal staff. Utilize electronic tools for receipt, delivery and tracking of all functional departmental statutory and regulatory filings. Works closely with all departments, management, and outside vendors.


 


 


Job Duties and Responsibilities:


 




  • Research and analyze law sources such as statutes, insurance regulations, state department bulletins, legal articles, treaties, constitutions and legal codes to prepare documents such as state matrix of all requirements for a homeowners’ insurance company, updating of said matrix as laws, regulations and state pronouncements change, catalogue of NBIC initial and annual compliance with said state insurance statutes and regulations, etc. for use by Chief Compliance Officer.


  • Assist in communicating with insurance departments, rating bureaus and internal staff to obtain required information; document required procedures, send to functional area responsible for submission, and file proof of correct submission by functional area.


  • Works with vendors tasked with performing internal compliance audits, to prepare audit compliance summaries.


  • Works in concert with all functional department analysts, underwriters and outside consultants.


  • Timely dissemination & implementation of state compliance information to underwriting and operations regarding critical regulatory or statutory changes and updates.


  • Categorize and interpret data; review and analyze reports, responses and records produced by other business functions.


  • Coordinate requests between multiple parties involved in compliance requirements by way of consistent communication.


  • Participate in special administrative and research projects as requested.


  • Maintain current and accurate records of state laws, regulation, bulletins and other sub-regulatory communications.


  • Provide administrative assistance to the Chief Underwriting and Risk Officer with all SERFF filings, new state entry filings, and state underwriting manual version update.


  • Maintain material on the Compliance Page of Narragansett Bay’s intranet website.


  • Coordinate travel requests for Compliance and project teams including assistance with expense reporting.

 


 


Job Requirements and Qualifications:


 




  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, for internal and external communications. Ability to work and communicate with staff, leadership team members, and board of directors.


  • Outstanding time management and organization skills. Ability to multi-task, assess priorities and competently handle a variety of activities with a high-degree of accuracy in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Adept at archiving, organizing and retrieving material effectively.


  • High level of confidentiality and professionalism required. Must be tactful and diplomatic in all interactions.


  • Ability to understand, edit and manipulate computer files in order to organize and maintain the Compliance Page on Narragansett Bay’s intranet website.


  • Tolerant of some ambiguity; work well under pressure; assertive but respectful.

 


 


Education and Experience:


 




  • Bachelor's degree is highly desirable.


  • Paralegal Certificate from an ABA-certified program preferred.


  • Minimum 5 years paralegal and insurance regulatory experience required.


  • Prior insurance experience; property and casualty preferred.


  • Must have experience in a Market Conduct Unit or General Counsel’s office with a state regulatory department or paralegal experience in a Compliance Department handling regulatory affairs across multiple states (NE and Mid-Atlantic States preferred.)
