POSITION DESCRIPTION


 



Job Title:        Materials Planner/Scheduler                    Department: Manufacturing


 


Reports to:    Operations Manager                                   Approved:  October 2009


 



BASIC FUNCTION:


Responsible for planning, scheduling and monitoring the movement of material through the production cycle.  Coordinates the efficient movement of materials with purchasing, production and engineering.


 



PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


 


Manages the production order releases utilizing ERP system to meet the master production schedule.


 


Analyzes MRP output on a continual basis and translates output into a weekly and daily production schedule for each assembly process


 


Manages and maintains raw material inventory through the use of ERP reporting tools to ensure production needs are achieved.


 


Identifies and assists in the timely mitigation of material shortages in conjunction with purchasing and submits purchasing requisitions in support of the Production and Engineering schedules.


 


Issues appropriate paperwork to material handling for kitting job orders from inventory, ensuring accurate material counts and designated lot numbers.  Oversees the material flow on the floor to ensure printed job travelers are issued,


 


Keeps management informed and reports on the daily production needs and completions, and any shortages that may affect production releases and/or deliveries.


 


Monitors and maintains the finished goods Kanban inventories through the use of ERP reporting tools and takes action when inventory levels rise or fall below desired levels, or if inventory quality issues arise.


 


Researches inventory problems related to product BOMs (Bill of Materials), or other material usage issues and ensures they get resolved.  Notifies the department manager when issues cannot be resolved and for further research and resolution.


 


Assists in physical inventories, and/or cycle counting and alerts appropriate personnel when minimum re-order points are reached. 


 


May assist in the development of metrics, reports, and/or other tools for continuous improvement.


 


Performs all other duties as assigned.


 



 


EDUCATION:  Associates Degree or the equivalent.


EXPERIENCE:  3-5 years related experience, including manufacturing planning, production and inventory control.  Experience in the medical device industry preferred.


SPECIAL SKILLS: Strong working knowledge of planning systems (E2, SAP, Oracle, etc.); PC skills; mathematical ability; must be detail oriented and ability to work on own initiative and with minimum supervision. 


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  Able to lift up to 50 lbs.  Able to sit, stand, bend and stoop.
