Summary: 


 


Plan, direct, coordinate and control activities of workers engaged in assembling parts and/or assemblies into units by performing the following duties.


 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned):


 


·       Develop and provide input on assembly requirements needed to determine the total labor and gross margin for customer orders.


·       Interface with other departments to ensure customer order deadlines are met.


·       Study production schedules and estimate worker hour requirements for completion of job assignment.


·       Create detailed schedule time lines to ensure customer shipment dates and equipment specifications are met.


·       Develop a process plan including people, resources, equipment and floor space for each customer order.


·       Plan flow of materials through department and develop physical layout of machines according to work orders.


·       Establish or adjust work procedures to meet production schedules.


·       Recommend measures to improve production methods, equipment performance and quality of product.


·       Suggest changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of shop, department or work crew.


·       Coordinate manpower requirements by increasing or decreasing personnel and overtime to meet changing conditions.


·       Analyze and resolve work problems or assist workers in solving work problems.


·       Initiate or suggest plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.


·       Maintain time and production records.


·       Estimate, requisition and inspect materials.


·       Confer with other supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments.


·       Set up machines and equipment.


·       Report machine and equipment malfunctions to maintenance personnel.


·       Perform activities of workers supervised.


·       Interpret company policies to workers and enforce safety regulations.


·       Maintain an appropriate labor-management relationship with subordinates.


·       Respond to grievances accordingly and work with subordinates and Human Resources to discuss and eliminate problems.


 


Supervisory Responsibilities:                                           


 


Directly supervise 5-20 employees in the Assembly department.  Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees, planning, assigning and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints, and resolving problems.


 


Education and/or Experience:                                           


 


Bachelor’s degree in Industrial/Production Engineering, Production Management, or appropriate technical discipline; or an Associate’s degree in an appropriate technical discipline and 3-5 years applicable and related experience in a relevant manufacturing environment; or a minimum of 5 years applicable and related experience in a relevant production/manufacturing environment; or the equivalent combination of appropriate education and experience.


 


Computer Skills:                                                      


 


To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Internet software, inventory software, manufacturing software, order processing systems, and spreadsheet software.


 


Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:


 


Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma training and certification are preferred.


 


Other Qualifications & Requirements:                                                     


 


·       US Citizenship is required. 


·       Employees must be able to work in an environment with information/ products covered in DTC’s Technology Control Plan (TCP). 


·       Ability to work overtime to meet department and business goals.
