This is a limited appointment position with an end date of September 30, 2010. This is also a grant funded position and is not eligible for severance pay.
The Center for Reading and Language Research seeks an individual with excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills to fill its available position of Research Coordinator. The mission of the Center for Reading and Language Research is threefold: (1) to pursue basic knowledge about reading acquisition across all ages of development and different languages, and about the varied forms of reading and learning disabilities; (2) to apply this knowledge to create reading and remediation programs for children and adults; and (3) to disseminate this basic and applied knowledge through teaching, research, professional development, clinical and school services, and publishing activities.
The Research Coordinator will work as part of a team, performing a wide range of assignments including:
- Establishing and maintaining relationships with school personnel;
- Recruiting study participants:
- Coordinating data collection, data entry and database management;
- Establishing and monitoring data collection processes, monitoring progress, and preparing data for analysis;
- Administering standardized assessments to study participants, recruiting and supervising university student testers, and preparing data for analysis
Basic Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree
- Three (3) years of related experience or one (1) year with a Master's degree
- Data coding and entry
- Experience with study participant recruitment or related skills; superior organizational skills; excellent public speaking, verbal and written communication skills; the ability to prioritize multiple demands, take the initiative, and quickly generate solutions to problems as they arise; must demonstrate capacity to learn how to administer standardized tests and, after learning, to recruit, train and supervise other testers.
Preferred Qualifications:Spanish language proficiency is highly desired. Experience working with children, particularly in a teaching environment. Experience working with urban youth is a plus. Database management and data entry experience is also a plus.
Special Work Schedule Requirements:Generally, normal 9:00am to 5:00pm work schedule, though hours may vary to accommodate public and private school schedules. Occasional evenings or weekends may be required for recruitment purposes (e.g., speaking to groups of teachers or parents).
