Evaluation Team Liaison |Special Education

About the Job

Purpose: The purpose of the Evaluation Team Liaison is to provide guidance, oversight, and a range of direct and indirect support to special education staff in the provision of special education services in a variety of institutional settings. 


 


Essential Functions: 


·        Actively participate in the development of student IEP’s.


·        Serve as a Liaison/Advocate among all service components in the development of student IEP’s.


·        Conduct regular monitoring of IEP’s to ensure they are in compliance.


·        Provide training to host agency (DPH, DMH, DYS, CHC) teachers in special education service delivery, progress monitoring, inclusion, team teaching, and laws and regulations pertaining to special education.


·        Assist with Transitional Planning.


·        Maintain professional standards and up to date knowledge of trends in special education practices and services.


·        Provide on-going, regularly scheduled consultation to special and regular education personnel.


·        Collaborate effectively with host agency departments and communicate effectively (verbally and in writing) with all staff and constituents.


·        Provide support in MCAS administration.


·        Maintain accurate and up to date records.


·        Ensure personnel understand the components of an IEP and the laws and regulations governing them.


·        Implement Child Find activities in accordance with state and federal guidelines.


·        Arrange timely evaluation of students suspected of having a disability.


·        Develop mechanisms to involve eligible students and, when appropriate, their parents/guardians in the development and/or content of IEPs.


·        Maintain information on and liaison with other public and private agencies and individuals who provide services to students with disabilities in the region.


·        Develop agreed upon procedures for working collaboratively with LEAs in supporting the population being served.


·        Regularly assess program quality and infrastructure in partnership with supervisor and provide recommendations for quality improvement.


 


Other Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Attend/participate in required in-service and professional development activities.

  • Regularly meet with supervisor and other colleagues.

  • Maintain pertinent student data and use this data to improve practice.

  • Assume any additional responsibilities as directed by the SEIS Administrator.

 


Minimum Qualifications:



  • BA degree and license in Special Education.

  • Proficient in the use of technology in performing job related duties.

  • Strong Communication/Problem Solving skills.

  • Able to multi-task and prioritize work effectively.

  • Maintain strict confidentiality.

  • Interact effectively with diverse population.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

 


Physical Demands:



  • Requires physical condition and mental stamina to endure job stress in the performance of duties, as well as periods of standing and sitting.

 


Working Conditions:



  • May be subject to dangerous, often locked settings where the threat of verbal abuse, physical violence, and exposure to communicable disease may be prevalent.

 


Terms of Employment:



  • 12 month calendar; Monday through Friday


  • Requires a 8 hour work day inclusive of 30 minute lunch
