The Institute for Aging Research in Boston, affiliated with Harvard Medical School, is one of the most prestigious aging research facilities in the country. HSL's NewBridge on the Charles, our premier multigenerational continuing care retirement community in Dedham, consists of 256 independent living units, 50 assisted living units, 41 memory support assisted living units, and a 268-bed Health Care Center, which offers long-term and sub-acute care. Hebrew SeniorLife also offers services to the community, including Adult Day Health programs and outpatient clinics in audiology, exercise, memory disorders, osteoporosis screening, and rehabilitation.

The Fitness Specialist is charged with assisting the Fitness Director in the creation and implementation of fitness related activities for Assisted Living population which includes both traditional and memory support at NBOC. The Fitness Specialist also assists the Fitness Director in the creation, organization, and implementation of other health related activities such as educational speakers and health fairs. All programs are used to reinforce the value of fitness to all assisted living tenants. The Fitness Specialist is responsible for upholding and delivering the highest Hebrew SeniorLife (HSL) and fitness industry program standards with regards to safety, professionalism and quality of care for residents. The Fitness Specialist may serve (in the absence of a Fitness Director) as part of an interdisciplinary team made up of (but not limited to) administrative, medical and social service associates and attends monthly HSL fitness staff meetings. This is a part-time position working 10 hours per week, Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday (mornings, 2 hours per day)
Requirements: -A Bachelor's degree in exercise physiology/science or related field and/or a minimum certification level equal to the ACSM Health and Fitness Instructor (HFI), and current CPR certification. -Knowledge of aging and disability issues a plus. -Must be able to teach and motivate elders effectively. -Strong customer service, teamwork, communication and interpersonal skills are required. -Ability to promote good relations in-house and with outside vendors, if required. -Demonstrate flexibility, adjusting behavior, style or schedule as circumstances change. -Must care deeply about supporting and assisting seniors to maintain a healthy, happy and fulfilling lifestyle.
